About
Artist Statement
My work spans across various forms of media. I work both in 2d and 3d, wet and dry, art and design. I like to jump around a lot and explore each medium to its full capacity. Each medium tells a story in its own right through the qualities that are inherent and integral to the medium itself. Watercolor best represents water...charcoal can be used to create a wide range of values...tempera paint is better used to understand color mixtures than a crayon would. Although I work across nearly every medium, I find myself naturally arriving at themes in my work of: inside, outside, liminality, objecthood and nostalgia. Inside and Outside have been my main thematic focuses as of recently. As an introvert I spend a lot of time at home and I’ve been really intrigued by interior and industrial design recently so I’ve been spending some time observing my home enviornment and capturing it in its present state. Conversely, my outside work has focused on references Ive been taking on walks I take. The reference photos I take mainly focus on manmade objects and fixtures that exist in the natural environment. Everything leads back to my fascination with design, more specifically objects and objecthood. My work ebbs and flows back and forth between art and design. Through my work, I want to investigate and better understand my enviornment while also sealing it and freezing moments in time. My memory isnt always reliable and art-making is very tedious so I am unconciously recording what is most important to me.I am incredibly restless and must keep making work at all times. This means that I move across various media all the time. This also means that I tend to leave many projects finished because they fulfill a certain need and I dont really feel the desire to finish the work to completion.
