Pratt  Visting Instructor
At Pratt I co-taught two TPA preparation courses: Professional Practices and Saturday Art School. In Professional Practices, graduate and undergraduate students lesson planned and gradually worked on completing the TPA. In Saturday Art School, students implemented their planning by teaching their learning segment to a group of middle or high school students at Pratt. My role as a professor was to guide and support the new teachers in best planning and teaching practices.

Each week I would meet with students and review their work to make sure that they were ready to teach. Each lesson had to be carefully sequenced within the six week limit of the TPA. It was important to balance both skill and conceptual understanding throughout. The images below are the end results of the learning segments, along with a few additional projects. Students at SAS were able to follow clear and concise learning objectives for each lesson while creating work that is interesting and unique to the student.

This was an invaluable learning experience for me, teaching new teachers. It helped me to reflect and better understand what best teaching practices look like and why.
